PROJECT/ ITEM TITLE:

Racial Integration Singing Competition & Language Quiz in conjunction with Racial Harmony Celebration.

Event Target Group & Participants:

  • GOH: Mrs Chia Ban Tin, Cluster Supt, Principals of Cluster Schools & advisor for MTL Support Group, Mdm Ng Shok Yan.
  • Participants: 250 participants including CL/ML/TL students and MTL teachers from cluster schools.
  • Invited judges & guests: Regent Sec, Chestnut Drive Sec.

Synopsis of event/programme, outcomes and reflections

  • To promote racial integration and creativity.
  • To provide a platform for students to practice mother tongue languages other than their own MT language in the form of Singing.
  • To provide opportunities for students and teachers of 3 mother tongue languages to collaborate and interact in cluster activities.
  • Each cluster schools to send 1 team, comprises of at least 2 different races of maximum 8 students for the Singing Competition.  
  • Each team to present a song item comprises of at least 2 languages. The song item can be original composition, traditional, folk or national songs. Participants are encouraged to put on ethnic costumes.
  • The participants and audience will also participate in the Mother Tongue language Quiz and interactive Guess the lyrics Competition.

Chinese Oral Presentation Workshop and Public Speaking Competitions for CL students.

Synopsis of event/programme, outcomes and reflections

  • To build up student confidence in communication skills and oral presentation skills.
  • To provide a platform for cluster students to collaborate and work together.
  • Students will go through the public speaking and oral presentation workshop in Chinese conducted by external vendor.
  • There will be a public speaking competition organise for participants to evaluate the learning outcomes after the workshop.

Malay Writer’s workshop, creative writing  competition and compilation of students’ essays

  • Jointly organised by Cluster Support Group and Bukit Panjang Community Club

Synopsis of event/programme, outcomes and reflections

  • Students will learn new ideas and language skills from each other through the competition between cluster schools that enhance quality of writing.
  • Students are able to select relevant stimulus from the given environment that motivate them to write an inspirational poem. Students would learn to describe and relate their emotions in the poem style through effective use of the Tamil Language.

Major Project: Racial Integration Talent Search & MTL Language & Cultural Quiz with Racial Harmony Celebration

  • Date: 20 July 2012
  • Time: 2.30 – 5.30pm
  • Venue: Assumption English School
  • GOH: Mrs Chia Ban Tin, Principal of AES and Fajar Sec attended the programme.
  • Participants: 300 students & 30 teachers from 7 cluster schools. (AES, CDS, FSS, GSS, JSS, RGT and ZSS). BCP was invited to be one of the judges for the competition.
  • Objectives: To promote racial integration and creativity. To provide a platform for students to practice mother tongue languages and other than their own MT language in the form of Singing and Quiz. To provide opportunities for students and teachers of 3 MT languages to collaborate and interact in cluster activities.   
  • Synopsis/Highlights: Chinese newspaper Lianhe Zaobao Students’ Section covered the event report. An article on the event will also be published in the December issue of Bukit Timah Literature Magazine. Positive feedback received from all the participants.
  • Newspaper (Lianhe zaobao) report, photos of events & write up were attached.

  • Participants: 45 CL Teachers from CW6
  • Objectives: To provide CL teachers a platform to share and learn from one another and to improve the teaching and learning of Chinese language.
  • Synopsis: Each participating cluster school shared one of their PLC project or best practices on teaching and learning programme. Teachers and school benefited from the professional sharing session. Teachers learn new pedagogies for better teaching.

Name of Project: ML E-Documentary Competition

  • Date:  Fri 19 Oct 2012
  • Venue: Jurong Sec
  • Judges: ML teachers from cluster schools.
  • Participants: 6 Sec schools with 4 pupil participants each school.
  • Objectives: 
  • Synopsis: Pupils will come up with an E-Documentary on one of the themes given.  Pupils are expected to incorporate videos, pictures and voice-over in the E-Documentary production.  Then the team will have to present on their journey and reflections in preparing the E-Documentary.
  • To provide a platform for ML pupils to display their ICT & production skills.
  • To provide a platform for ML pupils to enhance their oracy and presentation skills

Name of Project: TL Professional Sharing

  • Date/Venue: 28 Sept 2012
  • Judge: CW6 Tamil Teachers
  • Participants: 10 Teachers from CW6 and invited teachers from other schools: 5
  • Objectives: Teachers to share about their lesson package prepared for New Sec 2 Texts. Teachers will also share pedagogies and best practices.
  • Synopsis:
  • Teachers will be involved in resource package preparation in their MTL department and share pedagogies and best practices at Cluster Level Professional Sharing. They will conduct a lesson to demonstrate effectiveness of the new lesson package. Teachers will also learn new pedagogies for better teaching.

  • Name of Project: Professional Learning Journey to an educational institution in Johore Bahru (Temenggong Ibrahim Teacher’s Training Institute)
  • Date: 19 June 2012
  • Participants: 12 teachers from 6 cluster schools and 2 invited teachers from Yew Tee Pri School

    • Synopsis/Highlights:  A visit to meet up with the HOD – Malay Language Department and lecturers from the institute to learn about their training courses and looking at possibilities to build relationship and to send our ML cluster teachers for future training programmes in the learning of ML.

  • Objectives: To expose Indian students to culture based games that enhance oral skills for better interaction, development of social, strategic thinking skills and team spirit.     
  • Synopsis: The Traditional Cultural Games are played in the South Indian villages by both males and females. The games are mostly played during festive seasons to involve everyone in the celebrations.

Name of Project: Professional Learning for CL teachers on new Picture Oral Assessment

  • Date: 5 April 2012
  • Venue: Zhenghua Sec
  • Trainer: Mr Han Yongyuan, Principal of Han Language Centre
  • Participants: 42 teachers from 7 cluster schools andNanyangGirlsHigh School. (AES, CDS, FSS, GSS, JSS, RGT, ZSS and NYGH).
  • Objectives: To enhance knowledge and skills of teachers in matters pertaining to assessment for the CL new syllabus.
  • Synopsis: Each teacher received a CD and a book containing pictures for oral conversation from the newspaper collection for reference. The respond for the workshop is overwhelming and teachers attended the course found it beneficiate.

  • Participants: 15 teachers from AES, FSS, JSS, RGT, ZSS and GSS
  • Objectives:
  • Synopsis/Highlights: Sharing of best practices on teaching and learning of ML.
  • To provide ML teachers a platform to share best practices among the schools
  • To identify 1-2 schools that will represent the cluster for the zonal sharing session.

Name of Project: Oral Presentation Workshop and Public Speaking Competition for CL students

  • Date: 23 March 2012
  • Venue: Jurong Sec
  • Trainer: External trainers from Nanyang Arts and Culture Centre.
  • Participants: 145 students and 15 teachers from 7 Cluster Schools (AES, CDS, FSS, GSS, JSS, RGT and ZSS).
  • Objectives: To build up student confidence in communication skills and oral presentation skills. To provide a platform for cluster students to collaborate and work together.
  • Synopsis/Highlights: Students were given training in oral presentation skills in reading and storytelling. Each school presented 2 items for competitions. The Higher Chinese group presented a poetry recitation and the Chinese group presented a story telling.
