The CW6 Humanities Committee works collaboratively to create platforms to engage students in learning beyond the school-based curriculum, and to develop teachers’ skill sets in the Humanities disciplines.

This year, the Humanities Committee endeavoured to organise two such programmes.

Tourism Lecture by Prof Chang

Lecture on Tourism by A/P Chang

6th April 2015

To provide students with a platform to deepen students’ understanding of the reality of
challenges faced by Singapore in sustaining its economic growth. The lecture is set in an
interactive manner whereby student precipitants are encouraged to raise questions and share their views.

Students gained insights on the changing ‘face’ of tourism and the challenges for Singapore to sustain growth in tourism.

History Assessment Workshop

2013 saw the implementation of the new History syllabus. In February, the History teachers in the cluster came together for an assessment workshop conducted by CPDD. The teachers worked collaboratively to put together source-based questions, and in the process, learnt about setting papers and marking for the new syllabus.

Sustainable Singapore Forum @ URA

The Humanities Committee worked in collaboration with the URA to create a students’ forum on the issues of sustainability that face Singapore. Students engaged in a Q&A discussion with URA planners, after which they discussed the issues in small groups and consolidated their learning points.

Here are some photographs that capture the memories of the forum.
